  1. Current student of any undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Sydney.

  2. Current holder of a USU Membership Number (it’s free!).

Terms and Conditions of SASS Membership


voting rights

In order to be eligible to hold Executive positions in the Society, or vote in matters, including elections, at a SASS General Meeting or Annual General Meeting, you must be an Ordinary Member, which involves:

  • Being a current student of the University of Sydney

  • Holding a valid USU Membership

  • Being a registered member of the society, by either:

    • Being a student under a Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences degree in the year of election

    • If you are outside of the faculty, signing up to SASS either through the USU Website

  • Having attended at least one (1) SASS event which happens between the conclusion of the most recent AGM until the announcement of the GM or AGM at which voting will occur

    • This must be a ticketed event

    • This must be an only-SASS event, not an event between SASS and another society or a general intersociety event

    • Playing for the Society in the Sydney University Sport and Fitness’ Interfaculty Sport Competition is considered an eligible event

If you fail to meet any of these criteria, you are ineligible to vote or run for election. These criteria apply regardless of the type of membership held. If you have any questions about your voting eligibility, feel free to contact us at any time.


automatic ordinary membership

If you are a student of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, you have automatic Ordinary Membership (providing that you have a USU Membership). However, in order for you to receive correspondence from us and be a registered member, you need to provide your details through the USU Website. In order to run for Executive or vote in any matter, including elections, at a SASS meeting, you must meet the criteria for voting rights.


FACULTY MEMBERSHIP

Those who are students within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney who do not have a valid USU Membership are eligible for Faculty Membership. Those with faculty membership are unable to hold Executive positions, vote in elections or vote in meetings of the Society. If this is something you’re interested in, you can simply sign up for USU Membership and to SASS for free!


associate membership

If you’re a student at the University of Sydney outside of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and you hold a valid USU Membership, you are eligible to become an Associate Member of the Society. Those with associate membership only are unable to hold Executive positions, vote in elections or vote in meetings of the Society unless you also meet the criteria for voting rights.
